Dharma Punx don't wear robes and they don't bow to statues of the Buddha. Anyone can form a group -- as long as he checks with Levine first -- and there isn't the emphasis on hierarchy found in many forms of Buddhism (there are no Zen masters or Tibetan lamas).

In Japan there are many fashion or cult trends, to name a few like, Otaku, Goth, Maid, Schoolgirl, Punk, Rockers. This isn't solely restricted to the young, I have seen older Japanese dressed like American Cowboys, or riding a motor bike which looks like a cop bike with the rider dressed like an American cop.
