I was a proof reader. Proofreading quarterly reports is like, well, put it this way- If the Japanese had been up on this form of torture during WWII and had used it on captured American spies, these spooks would have certainly and happily given up all kinds of secrets and we would have lost the war; and consequently my Japanese would be much better than it is now.

He was on my right side. I was holding a metal strap with my left hand. I switched to a strap on my right side and as I did my right elbow caught him squarely in the forehead. It didn’t so much hurt him as it surprised him.
“Gomen nasai,” I whispered and nodded. He ignored my apology probably sensing that my assault was done intentionally.

Doc: But you came to Japan initially for the girls, didn’t you?
Me: I don’t think so…
Doc: You don’t think so…
Me: Don’t get me wrong, doc. I think Japanese girls are awfully cute, and they do have a certain something that I find sexually appealing, but they are not the end all be all. They’re just women, nothing more, nothing less.

Me: Well, you ain't said nothing. You know how when foreigners see you and want to nod and say Hi and whatnot? I'm so Japanized I pretend like I don't see them sometimes.
Him: That's all? Man, I'm so Japanized I don't even sit next to foreigners on the train. I don't even like to stand next to them...hell, sometimes I call them foreigners like I'm a native.

He bench presses Japanese nurses, arm wrestles corrupt Police captains from Banana Republic countries (apparently for his freedom,) he once had an awkward moment...just to see how it feels, he lives vicariously through himself! I love this guy!!!Now where do I find this beer in Japan?

I don’t like to look at Japanese people, to be honest. Despite my best effort their behavior can sometimes ruin the sunniest day, the best stogie, the tastiest coffee, the happiest mood.

never ever lose your sense of humor in Japan...and if you do, Loco says, to keep it together, go ahead and smile anyway. (-:

A girlfriend in Japan can make the difference between a terrible experience and a great one. Aiko made mine great! My only regret is the short time we had together.
