A Japanese man recently went on a rampage with a wooden sword at the headquarters of the Democratic Party of Japan where he smashed computer in an attempt to "put a stop to the party's policies," especially granting suffrage to foreign permanent residents
Protesters fear that by granting suffrage in elections to ethnic Koreans and Chinese, as well as close to half a million other permanent-resident foreigners, the country will be surrendering its autonomy and culture to outsiders. Newspaper editorials have denounced the idea, and red-faced young men at rallies across the countries have brandished placards denouncing the "threat to Japan."
