The following is the general JAPUNDIT policy for handling multiple postings of the same news item.
1. A news item that is double posted soon after its original posting will be deleted without notice.
2. A news item that is double posted after some time has passed since its original posting will be allowed to stand without deletion.
We really don’t want to get into the business of closely monitoring posts, so the above general policy will be applied solely at the discretion of JAPUNDIT Admin.

How long is soon? ;)
That's the "solely at the discretion of JAPUNDIT Admin" part, Jeshii.
I'm getting so confused; I'm not sure if some of the stories are duplicates or if I've just seen them before... Maybe there should be an intermediary step which forces you to peruse related stories to see if yours is a dupe(like digg.com's submission method). If possible, just stick the related stories section on confirmation page after hitting the 'Submit' button. Didn't JapanNewsJunkie have something like this?
My position is that if there is a sufficiently large gap between two postings of the same item, there is nothing wrong with it being posted twice. Just because a story was posted previously, it does not necessarily mean that everyone read it then.
As I mentioned in this post, the easiest way to check is to use the SEARCH box near the top of the sidebar.
Actually, the duplicate posting issue is really not that big of a problem, though it does occur. This policy was created and publicized mostly to deal with a specific instance that needed to be clarified.
