According to the Shukan Post, sham cherries (jinko shojomaku) are being imported from China by individual entrepreneurs and marketed in Japan on the Web for around 2,300 yen a pop.
The label on the synthetic hymens says they they are made of “non-allergenic natural albumin, a medicated inflation agent, water-soluble base and sodium carboxymethyl," among other things.
The manufacturer claims that upon insertion, body temperature causes the device to expand across the opening.
